BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tenaris is a leading worldwide manufacturer of steel pipes for the oil, gas, and automotive industries. With an annual manufacturing capacity of six million tons of steel pipes, manufacturing facilities in 15 countries, and R&D centers in 25, Tenaris has an extensive global presence. Tenaris established a corporate university to integrate, align, and disseminate knowledge across the company. The system lacked scalability and the ability to create complex curricula. Tenaris needed to find a more scalable LMS platform that could integrate the university’s formal training with informal training located in the company’s intranet, support a broad range of languages, and accommodate both internal and external audiences.
HOW SUMTOTAL HELPED
Tenaris implemented SumTotal Learn: Enterprise and Extended Enterprise to provide training for employees and external audiences. Managers can now see each student’s assigned curricula and progress. In addition, TenarisUniversity has the freedom to create its own specially designed learning activity structure and adapt this structure as needed. Tenaris integrated SumTotal’s solution with the existing SAP® ERP infrastructure and Microsoft® SharePoint® infrastructure, enabling the mapping of personnel location, job roles, and other relevant employee information between the learning and ERP environments.
